National Pollution Prevention (P2) Week is celebrated each year during the third week of September. P2 Week is a time for businesses and consumers to learn how best to protect our environment by using fewer toxic chemicals, reducing water and energy consumption, generating less solid and hazardous waste, and reducing air pollution. Safer Alternative to Floor Wax Strippers
Dr. Katy Wolf presents the findings and results of a project that addressed three methods for reducing or eliminating the risk of exposure to these strippers to maintenance workers, students, teachers, building workers and the general public. These methods include: developing two alternative low-VOC, low toxicity strippers; testing three alternative types of coatings that can be applied to VCT that make wax stripping unnecessary; and testing seven types of flooring replacements for VCT that do not require waxing or stripping. Dr. Wolf also presents cost analysis of using VCT and the alternatives.

The Green Chemistry manual provides state agencies and technical assistance providers (engineers) with tools and resources to better serve their clients who are looking for information and to support greening their operations, processes, products and supply chains. Business owners can also use the publication to develop and implement green chemistry solutions and improve profitability.
This series of webinars covers the content of the manual chapter-by-chapter. Lissa McCracken, Executive Director, Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center, will present on Chapter 8, which addresses the implementation of sustainability practices into business models and integrating pollution prevention and green chemistry strategies and model.
